Inclusive Dussehra Celebration

For the last two years, we have hosted a virtual Dussehra in partnership with Sadhana: Coalition of Progressive Hindus so that LGBTQ+ Hindus and their families can have a safe and affirming space to celebrate. We are excited to host the 2022. Dussehra Celebration on Friday, October 28 at 8pm ET/7pm CT/5pm PT!

Dussehra or Vijayadashimi is celebrated as a major holiday by millions of South Asian Hindus, with a dazzling diversity of language and cultural traditions. For LGBTQ+ folks and for their parents and families, festivals can bring up feelings of isolation and alienation. Desi Rainbow Parents and Allies & Sadhana invite all Desi LGBTQ+ folx, their families and allies to a Dussehra Celebration, welcoming all genders and sexualities. Kids of all ages are welcome!

We will listen to affirming words from faith leaders and celebrate the talents and joy of LGBTQ+ Hindus.

The event will feature performance, puja, group discussion and an interactive virtual LGBTQ+ affirming Golu! The practice of displaying Golu (or Kolu or Bombe) is a central part of Navaratri celebrations throughout South India. We invite you all to submit an image of figurine, doll or any object that you hold dear to you and that affirms LGBTQ+ identity and inclusion.
