Our Stories

Desi Rainbow is proud to present Our Stories, a series of short films we released at the end of 2021 featuring the parents of Desi Rainbow Parents & Allies.

Desi Rainbow was founded by a parent of an LGBTQIA+ child, and continues to recruit, support and train parents to lead as allies and activists within the South Asian community. We share our stories and journey so that other families can listen, learn, and know that they are not alone.

Our Stories Short Films CoCreators:
 

Hemakshi Gordy (she/her) is an undergraduate at Yale University. She has been making films (including cinematography and editing) since 2018, when her short documentary film won first place in C-SPAN's StudentCam competition. 

Sonali Gulati (she/her) is an independent filmmaker, a feminist, a queer rights activist, a Guggenheim Fellow, and a Professor at Virginia Commonwealth University's School of the Arts in the department of Photography & Film. Gulati grew up in New Delhi and has made several films that have screened at over four hundred film festivals worldwide.
